He was born on January 12, 1954 in Lagos to the Kosoko royal family of Lagos Island. He studied business administration at Yaba College of Technology. He began his acting career as a child actor in 1964 in a television production Makanjuola.

Jide Kosoko has won the City People Movie Lifetime Achievement Awards for his contribution to the growth of the Nigerian movie industry (Nollywood). Jide Kosoko apart from acting is also a professional movie producer. In 1992, he produced his own Nollywood film titled ÔÇťAsiri.

All his life, Kosoko has been married to four women. Three out of the four are late including Henrietta who was an actress until her demise in June 2016. Jide is now left with Alhaja Karimat. Also, the veteran actor is blessed with children and grandchildren.
