The Anambra State Police Command, Sunday, arrested one Ifeanyi Apusiobe, aged 34 years old, of Azu Ogbunike in thecOyi Local Government Area of the state, for allegedly killing his sleeping biological children with a pestle. He also reportedly hit his father with the same wooden object, though he did not die.

According to the Anambra State Police Command’s Public Relations officer, SP Haruna Mohammed, the suspect was arrested at about 1am this morning by the police operatives attached to the Ogbunike Police Station.

He said, “The suspect allegedly ran amok in circumstances yet to be ascertained, and attacked two of his biological children, namely Chinecherem Apusiobi, ‘f’, aged seven years old, and Obinna Apusiobi, ‘m’, aged five years old, with a wooden pestle on their heads while they were sleeping. The suspect equally used the same object to wound his father, one Dominic Apusiobi, aged 72 years old, on the head.”

He further stated that the police detectives visited the scene, and rushed the victims to the hospital for medical attention where the two children were certified dead by a medical doctor while the aged father was responding to treatment.

The corpses of the deceased, he said, had been deposited at Isienyi Hospital morgue for autopsies, adding that the exhibit was also recovered, and that the case had been transferred to state Criminal Investigation Department, Awka, for discreet investigations.
