Dark elbows
and knees are mostly caused by an accumulation of dead skin cells, hyperpigmentation increased by sun exposure, birth control pills, freckles and age spots, inflammation from a previous injury etc, over a period of time.

Many people may find it unpleasant and therefore seek many ways to lighten them but having dark knees isnโ€™t harmful and if you would like to lighten them, you can try homemade remedies. Simple home ingredients can be put together to lighten your dark elbows and knees to give you a unified skin complexion so don’t bother using chemicals that may cause harm rather than good.

Ingredients for remedy

1) Sugar: Taking sugary foods or drinks for long periods of time may cause plaques as bacteria use the sugar to produce acids that attacks your tooth enamel but in this case, sugar’s glycolic and alpha-hydroxy acid contents help to maintain your skin’s equilibrium meaning, it won’t become too dry.ย It is a natural humectant which means it draws moisture from the atmosphere into the skin. The rough texture the granules have makes it an excellent scrub which will help exfoliate the skin. It is very good for the skin.

2) Hydrogen peroxide: It contains bleaching properties that helps to lighten the skin and acts as a disinfectant too.

3) Lime: It’s a natural whitening product that contains powerful astringents. It will help get rid of the dead skin cells that have accumulated. Use fresh cut lime.

4) Honey: It moisturizes and hydrates dry skin. It will help fade the darkness, nourish the skin and give it a soft, radiant feel.

Preparation of remedy

1) Put four (4) tablespoons of sugar into a bowl.

2) Add a half teaspoon (ยฝ) of lime juice.

3) Put in one (1) tablespoon of honey and mix.

4) Add one (1) tablespoon of the hydrogen peroxide and give it a proper stir.

Application of remedy

1) Wipe your elbows and knees with clean water and dry.

2) Put some of the mixture on half cut of lime and scrub on your dark elbows and knees for six (6) minutes.

OR: Put some of the mixture on a cotton wool and scrub on your dark elbows and knees for six minutes.

3) Wipe with a wet towel and apply olive oil to maintain moisture.

Note:ย Only apply this remedy when you don’t have any allergic reactions to the ingredients above.
