Adamawa Records 500 Rape Cases Recorded In 5 Months

About 500 rapes cases have occured in Adamawa State within the past five months as referral center on sexual assault revealed.

The 500 rape cases took place within Adamawa State and the case has become worrisome as the victims of rape have taken to a spotlight while the culprits continues to intensify their evil acts.

This ugly and shocking revelation was made by the manager of Adamawa State Sexual Assault Referral Centre, Dr Usha Saxena, in Yola, the state capital in a media chat with journalists who had called to find out the cases regarding the rape pandemic in the State.

Saxena added, that the rise of rape cases in the state was alarming and the current cases were from those with courage to report to the authorities, while others weren’t reported for fear of stigmatisation.

The manager of Adamawa State Sexual Assault Referral Center, Dr Usha Saxena, further made the disclosure that hundreds of victims are not willing to report similar other cases taking place all over the state.

She said, “Many parents shy away from reporting sexual assault on their daughters for fear of stigmatisation.

“And because of this, the girls are exposed to asexually transmitted diseases.”

She said religious inhibitions have prevented many victims to come forward to report such abuses otherwise the number would have been more than 500.

The manager urged parents and traditional rulers to educate the people to always come forward with such cases.
