Residents in these under listed area in Lagos State are expected to prepare for the worst as rainy season approaches. This was revealed by the Lagos State government in a report by channels tv on Tuesday, 10 march. See link to source; https://www.channelstv.com/2020/03/10/lagos-govt-asks-residents-to-prepare-for-over-200-days-rainfall/
The areas includes; Surulere, Ikeja, Badagry, Epe, Lagos Island and Ikorodu.
According to the report, the State commissioner of environment, Tunji Bello made the statement in a press briefing on the year 2020 rainfall prediction. He explain that residents within the coastal areas will witness flashflood.
He added that Lagosian should expect early onset of rainfall as from 19th march with error margin of three days.
Sitting reference to a meteorological reports, he therefore adviced residents of Surulere, Ikeja, Badagry, Epe, Lagos Island and Ikorodu to desist from acts that lead to flooding and indiscriminate dumping of refuses at unauthorized places. As these areas are on the coastal and low-land regions.
In my views, as long as the drainages are clean, all the Waters will find its way back to the lagoon and disappears soon.
It must also be noted that anytime the lagoon level rises, it may lock up the discharge point drainage channels causing back flow of water resulting to flooding. Hence, all drainages needs to be kept clean.
